(Released October, 2012)

A powerful topic that is both timely—and timeless.

Hopeless. Freak. Elephant. Pitiful. These are the words of Skinny, the vicious voice that lives inside fifteen-year-old Ever Davies’s head. Skinny tells Ever all the dark thoughts her classmates have about her. Ever knows she weighs over three hundred pounds, knows she’ll probably never be loved, and Skinny makes sure she never forgets it.

But there is another voice. Ever’s singing voice, which is beautiful but has always been silenced by Skinny. Partly in hopes of trying out for the school musical—and partly to try and save her own life—Ever decides to undergo a risky surgery that may help her lose weight and start over.

With the support of her best friend, Ever begins the uphill battle toward change. But demons, she finds, are not so easy to shake, not even as she sheds pounds. Because Skinny is still around. And Ever will have to confront that voice before she can truly find her own.

Skinny Soundtrack
Ever Davies knows almost all the lyrics to any musical by heart, and has an amazing singing voice that no one knows about except her best friend, Rat. She thinks it would be great “if we could hear the soundtrack of our lives playing in the background.” When she starts her difficult journey toward self-discovery, Rat supports her by building a playlist made up of her favorite songs to do just that.

This is Ever’s playlist and the soundtrack of her story. It contains some of her very favorite musical melodies. Listening to the music helps you connect deeper to the story, and to Ever, all along the way. As Ever is rolled off down the hall toward surgery, you can almost hear the opening chords as the music from the Phantom of the Opera begins to play. You can almost imagine Ever stepping up to the microphone to sing “Listen” for the big audition. And the final song, "I’m Here" (from The Color Purple) is a powerful accompaniment to Ever’s last chapter.

Listen to see if you can remember where this song was mentioned and how it helped bring the story to life.

Thanks to Spotify for making this possible!
